GTA VI fans flood a nudist resort in Florida with fake reviews
Cypress Cove Nudist Resort in Kissimmee, Florida, is receiving fake reviews that refer to GTA VI. Fans believe the resort inspired a location in the game. The owners say some of the reviews came with a demand for money.
The link does not come from Rockstar. It comes from alleged gameplay footage that leaked last month and has not been confirmed. Fans think a nudist resort seen in that material resembles Cypress Cove, IGN writes, based on reporting by GamesRadar.
The reviews on the Google page of the resort mention Jason Duval, Lucia, binoculars, a swimming pool and firearms. The owner replied to one of them that these are references to Grand Theft Auto VI, a video game.
A demand for money
According to the owner, the reviews are a coordinated series of invented posts. Some were followed by a request for payment to change or remove them. The resort says it will not pay or negotiate, has documented the reviews and the request, and is reporting the activity.
The owner also addressed whoever is behind it. The resort appreciates the dedication to the GTA storyline, the reply says, but Cypress Cove is in Florida and not in Leonida.
Most reviews are gone
Most of the reviews that mention GTA VI appear to have been removed since. The reply of the owner still shows under some of the remaining ones. A review posted on 11 September says the writer will try to book a stay on 19 November, the release date of the game.
Whether Rockstar actually used Cypress Cove as a reference is not known. GTA VI is due on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
