GTA VI has more than 170 animal species in Leonida

Leonida, the world of Grand Theft Auto VI, holds more than 170 animal species. Rockstar Games confirms that in the cover story of Game Informer, published on 29 September. Which animals players meet depends on the area.

Birds, mammals, fish and reptiles

More than sixty of the species are birds, according to the story. There are more than thirty land mammals, plus several kinds of fish and reptiles.

Some animals are named: flamingos, alligators, pelicans and manatees. All of them also live in the real Florida. Earlier trailers already showed rays and dolphins.

Part of a denser world

The animals are not only there to fill the world, writes IGN Benelux. Rockstar wants the parts of the environment to react to each other, and wildlife is one of those parts. The species are spread over the different areas of Leonida.

The map is about twice the size of the one in GTA V, and Rockstar stresses that the extra space is filled. Besides buildings to enter and activities, that means animals.

In GTA V, animals were mostly limited to specific areas and played a smaller role. The approach in GTA VI is closer to Red Dead Redemption 2, according to IGN Benelux.

Grand Theft Auto VI appears on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
