IGN shows car theft in every GTA game, from 1997 to GTA VI
IGN has put car theft from every Grand Theft Auto game into one video. It starts with the first game from 1997 and ends with GTA VI. The compilation has no commentary, only footage from the games themselves.
The video runs eight minutes and is also on the YouTube channel of IGN. Bikes, boats and planes appear as well as cars.
Fourteen games in a row
The video has a chapter for each game. It covers the two London expansions of 1969 and 1961, and the handheld games Advance, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories and Chinatown Wars. GTA IV appears as The Complete Edition.
Most chapters last less than half a minute. Vice City gets almost a minute and San Andreas about a minute. GTA V gets more than a minute and a quarter, the longest chapter.
GTA VI at the end
The chapter on GTA VI starts after almost six minutes and lasts about a quarter of a minute. The game is not out yet. The video does not say where those images come from.
How stealing works in GTA VI is partly known from the coverage by Game Informer. Expensive cars need special tools, and trackers and alarms can cause trouble.
The last two minutes of the video are not about car theft. They repeat part of the details IGN spotted in the launch trailer, such as the biplane over the beach and the boat Jason polishes at the marina.
What is not known
The video does not compare the controls or the police response between the games. IGN gives no further explanation beyond the chapters. Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
