IGN spots 33 new details in the GTA VI launch trailer

IGN has gone through the launch trailer of Grand Theft Auto VI frame by frame. In a video of 12 minutes, the site lists 33 details. They range from the army past of Jason to cars, weapons and possible missions.

Most of it is interpretation by IGN, not information from Rockstar Games. What the trailer itself shows and says is in the post about the launch trailer.

Jason and the army

Halfway through the trailer, Jason wears a US Army shirt, IGN notes. The word Marauder stands out on it. That matches the tattoo of a skull and a parachute on his arm from earlier videos.

IGN thinks the Marauders are the unit Jason served in. The name may refer to Merrill’s Marauders, an American unit from the Second World War. According to IGN, Jason was then probably a Ranger.

In the scene where Jason wades through water at night, he wears night vision goggles and carries a silenced rifle, IGN writes. Two men follow him. A reptile on the left looks like a Komodo dragon to IGN, an animal from Indonesia.

Missions on a large scale

About a minute in, Lucia hangs from a cargo net in black gear, IGN points out. She fires a Shrewsbury grenade launcher at police cars below. A few seconds later a helicopter drags a similar net through the side of a tower.

IGN thinks both shots come from the same mission. The glass breaking from the tower is more detailed than in any earlier GTA, the site writes. Whether the game has destruction on a larger scale, the shot does not show.

Lucia also jumps from a car onto an airliner. IGN links that to the scene from the second trailer, where Lucia fights in the hold of a plane.

The bank vault with burning banknotes is the same as on a screenshot that IGN showed in August. Lucia is there with someone whose face is not visible. Another shot shows Lucia with gunmen dressed as construction workers.

Whether such partners belong to the story or can be hired, as with the heists in GTA V, is not known.

A biplane over the beach

A biplane flies over the beach of Vice City with the logo of a cryptocurrency on its side. A man on the wing holds a pink smoke flare. IGN suspects that Jason and Lucia take part in a scam with a fake coin.

Cars, boats and brands

IGN briefly spots the new Invetero Coquette, with turquoise and pink paint. The trailer also shows street racing and a chase in a lime green supercar.

Jason and Cal polish a boat that IGN takes for a new model. According to IGN, Jason works at the start of the story at a marina called Brian’s Marina. A truck of Globe Oil, a brand from GTA IV, drives in the background.

Characters and gangs

Jason and Lucia stand on the balcony of an apartment with a view of the beach. IGN calls it a different safehouse than the simpler home from the extended look.

Cal kisses a pet snake, and an iguana crosses the road. That fits the more than 170 animal species that live in Leonida. Real Dimez and a police officer of Vice City also appear briefly.

Raul Bautista threatens a man at a construction site while eating chicken. IGN thinks the bucket comes from Cluckin’ Bell, in a new design. Elsewhere masked people dance around a pile of golden rifles.

Weapons

Jason puts on brass knuckles and aims a sniper rifle at a helicopter, IGN notes. An earlier shot shows a helicopter crashing behind him. A man at the gym shows the system for sweat.

The gold dress of Lucia at the end is the same as in the second trailer. IGN thinks the scenes belong to one mission, from a yacht to a jump from a roof into a pool.

What is not known

Rockstar has not explained any of these scenes. The order of the shots says nothing about the story, and IGN marks most links as guesses. Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
