Leonida nearly matches GTA IV, GTA V and RDR2 combined
Grand Theft Auto VI has nearly as much land as GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 together. Rockstar Games tells that to the British magazine Edge. The count includes Vice City and the surrounding areas. The map is roughly twice the size of GTA V.
The comparison comes from the November issue of Edge, on sale from 29 October. Tweakers and IGN picked it up the same day. Edge gives no figure in square kilometres or miles.
More interiors than ever
The game holds “an order of magnitude more interiors” than earlier games from Rockstar, Aaron Garbut tells Edge. Garbut is co-studio head of Rockstar North. Houses have inhabitants, and those inhabitants leave traces, the magazine writes.
Garbut gives an example from a play session on the day of the visit. In an unknown house, one room held loving photos of the family dog. The next room showed what that dog had done while left home alone.
After years of playing, Garbut still finds places that were new to the co-studio head, according to Edge.
The map opens up early
Leonida opens up relatively early in the story, IGN writes. IGN bases that on the print issue of Edge, as summed up by the podcast GTA VI O’Clock. The online article of Edge does not mention it.
Players can then head to the north of the map without waiting for the story. In GTA IV, police blockades on the bridges held players back for a long time. How early the map opens exactly is not known.
Rockstar already called the map at least twice the size of GTA V in the cover story of Game Informer. Grand Theft Auto VI comes out on 19 November for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.
